WHAT ARE THE RULES AND REGULATIONS?
• No one under 6 years old is allowed on our trips. Children ages 6 – 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Children 17-18 years old must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver.
• Signed liability waiver forms are required by all participants prior to starting your trip.
• Everyone is required to sit through the safety talk.
• Life jackets are to be worn at all times by everyone, including adults and skilled paddlers.
• No bare feet or flip flops. You must wear water shoes, sandals with heel straps, or old tennis shoes.
• You must be on time for your trip. If you are late and we have started our safety talk, or the shuttle has left, you may have to wait for a later trip.
• As defined by law, the river and riverbed, including all sandbars and beaches, are considered public property. We ask that you stay within these borders. No trespassing on private property.
• No littering. Leave no trace. Don't leave anything behind. No glass containers. Let’s keep the James clean and beautiful.
• No alcohol. We will not put people who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs on the river. No deposits will be refunded to people who are turned away for this reason.
• Customers recklessly causing damage to canoes or other paddling equipment will be charged.

WHAT IS YOUR LIABILITY WAIVER?
Each participant must sign a liability waiver before starting their paddle. Minors must have their waiver signed by a parent or guardian. This waiver states that you assume responsibility for yourself, your child, and all property taken on the trip, both rented and private. No waiver, no rental, no exceptions!
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE SAFETY TALK?
All participants are required to listen to our safety talk, which will include:
• The importance of wearing your life jacket and how to size it properly.
• How to select a paddle and the basic strokes necessary to get you down the river and around the rocks.
• How to lower your center of gravity by kneeling in your boat.
• How to “read” the water. We’ll show you how to recognize hazards and find good channels.
• How to avoid pinning and damaging or losing your boat.
• What to do in a lightning storm.
• The importance of protecting yourself from dehydration and sunburn.
• The importance of wearing proper footwear in the river.
• The importance of wearing your life jacket and how to size it properly.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE TO PARTICIPATE?

WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?
• Wear clothes that can dry quickly. Bring a hat with a brim.
• Shoes that strap to your feet – water shoes, sandals with heel straps, or old tennis shoes. No flip flops or bare feet!
• Bottle of water and a snack
• Sunscreen
• Any medications needed during the trip.
• Ziplock bags for your dry stuff
• Change of clothes and towel to keep in your car

CAN I BRING MY DOG?
In consideration of other customers, we do not allow dogs on the trips.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
Safety is our top priority. James River Adventures reserves the right to cancel any trip at any time due to weather conditions and/or changing water levels. We will work with our customers to reschedule your trip for another date and time that works for you. If James River Adventures does cancel trips due to unsafe conditions and there’s no possibility of rescheduling, we can provide a refund.
If trips are canceled, all customers will receive an email the morning of the trip informing you of the situation and how to reschedule your trip. When you register, please use a current email address.
For customer cancellations, please notify us within 72 hours of your scheduled trip in order to receive a refund. Cancellations made less than 72 hours prior to your scheduled trip will only be allowed to reschedule.

Do you offer Shuttles?
No, we do not offer a shuttle service.
Can I just rent a canoe/Kayak for the Day
No, all canoe and kayak use is through our guided paddle trips.
